Nokia N900 - The 2 weeks

My last few posts had bits and pieces of the Nokia N900 that I have been trying out (I thank the wonderful people at WOMWorld for letting me try the Nokia N900). It's almost time I sent this back, though I would have loved to keep this with me forever!

Here are the things I loved about the Nokia N900 :

1. Looks, Looks, Looks :

It's a head turner. With the large screen and the awesome way it slides to display the keyboard underneath, it's a killer in the looks department.

2. 32 GB of internal memory is unbelievable:

Some of my friends refused to believe that the N900 comes with 32 frikking GB of internal memory. With such a large memory, you do not need to worry about space anymore. Load all your favorites songs, videos, movies and you'll still be left with enough space for photos, games and everything else!

3. RSS Reader:

Due to the large screen, I really enjoyed using the built in RSS Reader. Being a blogger, it's very important for me to read interesting and important blogs to keep myself updated. I travel by train to work everyday which means I spend around 2 hours traveling. These 2 weeks have been really productive all thanks to the RSS reader.

4. Screen Clarity and Camera :

The N900 has an awesome screen clarity and videos are a treat to watch on this device. The 5 megapixel camera does a pretty good job!

5. Conversations :

A unique way to display SMS as conversations makes messaging all the more fun (absolutely loved this feature)

Hope my review helps you in making a better decision while choosing your next cell phone. More reviews would come as and when I get my hands on other devices.

Nokia N900 - Day 5

I spoke about how I wished I had carried the N900 yesterday while traveling in the train. I thought I could have spent my time more efficiently by reading blog feeds through the default RSS reader provided.

But, there's a major flaw with the RSS reader. It considers http://feeds.feedburner.com/techcrunch to be an invalid feed URL! Well, that's not true and it shouldn't have been so!

Nokia N900 - Day 4

I did not take the cell to office today. Carried my E63. I missed the 'RSS Reader' that comes built in with the N900 so much today!

We have a weird holiday thingy at our office. A lot of other offices were closed today on account of a festival but our offices remained open. Which meant I had to go to work (I commute by train to work everyday).

Since it was a holiday, I got a place to sit in the train (trust me, it never happens, I always have to travel standing). So there I was sitting in the train knowing pretty well that I would be doing nothing for the next 35 minutes. This is when I reminded myself of the mistake I did by not carrying the N900 along. Tomorrow, as soon as I reach office, I'll probably make use of the free WLan network and download as many feeds as possible.

Nokia N900 - Day 3

Difficult to operate with one hand. I guess that's the case with all touch screens!

The N900 has a very good battery life as with all Nokia cell phones (well, almost all). I don't know if it's a problem with my service provider but the GPRS connection that I'm subscribed to isn't supported in this phone. But that was no problem for me, I found out there was a free WLan connection available in my office area (ironically, it did not belong to the company I work for!). I'm thoroughly impressed with the default browser provided with this device, it's good. With the big screen size, I did not really have to worry about using the 'mobile' version of websites (you must agree, most websites have a pathetic mobile version!).

32 GB

Did I tell you, the N900 has 32 GB internal memory. I could put all my favorite songs, movies etc into it and still be left with a lot of space!

SMS in a conversational view

I really really liked this feature. SMS that you receive from friends are displayed as conversations making it easier to find all your conversations at a single place!

Nokia N900 - Day 2

Took the N900 to office today. Showed it off to my colleagues, some liked it some didn't.

I travel by train to office everyday and realized I could use the time that I spend traveling reading something on the N900! I guess I'll download a few pdf's from the web and use the pdf reader that comes bundled with the cell.

Did I tell you, the camera of this device is pretty good (5 MP). I'm attaching a few pics of mine...more to come later. I've downloaded quite a few free games available for the N900 from Maemo.org. Will play them in my free time. Touch screen cell's usually take some time to get used to, so don't be put off the first time you try them.

Nokia N900 - Day 1

It's been a little over 24 hours since I got my hands on the Nokia N900 now. To be frank, there was nothing so different about this cell phone that attracted me when I first saw it yesterday. But a day into the cell, I'm beginning to unravel some pretty cool stuff built in it!

I realized the stylus as I mentioned in my previous post, wasn't provided for actually navigating but to make use of in the wonderful 'Sketch' app that comes with the device. I'm no artist but I loved the app. It's fun to actually draw stuff using the stylus! I'm attaching a few stupid sketches I've drawn using the Nokia N900 stylus and the 'Sketch' app.

I had charged the battery yesterday (using the USB charger). It's still going strong!

I watched a couple of videos that were already in the cell. The video clarity is nice and might actually come in handy to watch videos while travelling!

If you have any questions about the device, want me to try some apps or games or themes, please let me know :)
